Dear Residents,

At our first precinct meeting of the year on Monday 5th February 2018, we had a good turnout.  Many thanks to you all.

In order to articulate the precinct's position on Council's rate increase proposals (by lodgement of a Special Rate Variation to IPART), the meeting took a vote that was witnessed by the General Manager who was in attendance.

In the first count, 60% voted in favour of Option 1, 40% in favour of Option 2, and 0% in favour of Option 3.

In the second count, 45% voted in favour of Option 1, 55% in favour of Option 2 and 0% in favour of Option 3.

Council's Randwick City Plan 2018-21 Ratepayer Survey reports in executive summary of results:

  • Option 3 – Preferred approach ... received majority support and is the community’s most preferred approach.  It was chosen by 57% of respondents in the Telephone Survey and 49% of respondents in the Ratepayer Survey as their first preference.

The vote taken at the meeting indicates no support whatsoeve support whatsoever for Option 3.

The executive summary also states:

  • Option 1 – Do Nothing Approach ... is the least supported option.  Just 15% of Telephone Survey respondents and 22% of Ratepayer Survey respondents chose it as their first preference.

The vote taken at the meeting indicates no less than 46% chose Option 1 as their first preference.  Option 1 was the most supported option in the first count and the second most supported option in the second count.

The is a significant disparity between the choice of residents who attended the meeting compared to the greater Randwick residents based on Council's surveys.  To enable the precinct to make its submission at Council's Administration and Finances Committed meeting on Tuesday 13th February 2018, we need your feedback.

For this purpose, we have set up a survey page at:

  http://laperouse.net.au/index.php?page=survey

We request that you respond with your feedback.  We apologise for the late notice because this matter was put upon us at the time of the year when most of us are busy enjoying their holidays.  Council proposed to lodge a Special Rate Variation with IPART on 12th February 2018 according to the survey documents we received.

The results of the precinct survey will be programmatically tallied.  The user information will be extracted first to validate submissions, and then the results (option and feedback) will be extracted from all valid submissions without reference to the user information to summarise and the results will be published on the website. Where multiple submissions are received from the same resident, the most recent submission will override previous submissions.

Please take time to provide feedback on this important issue that will impact on the hip pockets of ratepayers.

Kind regards,

Jayasooriah
Chairperson
