Dear Residents,

Please be reminded of our meeting tomorrow, Monday 7th May @ 7pm at Prince Henry Centre.  Agenda and minutes of previous meetings can be found on our meetings page.

1.  Council's decision not to recognise La Perouse Precinct effective 27/04/18.

We were advised by Council by email letter dated 27th April 2018 that "after discussion with the Mayor and the Ward Councillors, it has been determined that Council will not recognise the La Perouse Precinct until such time that the precinct executives" ... "sign and acknowledge that they understand they are Council officials and therefore required to adhere to the Council Code of Conduct".

This is despite the fact that Council was advised by email on 23rd April 2018 that La Perouse Precinct executives are not authorised by the Precinct to agree to adhere to Randwick City Council's Code of Conduct by unanimous resolutions 35/15 dated 03/11/2015, 41/15 dated 07/09/2015 and 16.06 dated 01/02/2015.

The executives cannot sign the undertaking until you, the residents who comprise the Precinct authorise us to do so.  It is important that you make an effort to attend this meeting to decide what the executives should do in the circumstances.

2.  Massive Passenger Cruise Ship Terminal planned for Botany Bay.

Many of you would have read reports in the Southern Courier and also received letter from our Local Member Michael Daly about the proposed terminal to be cited at Yarra Bay.  Michael alludes us to the fact that the plan to build a massive passenger cruise terminal in Botany Bay had been considered by State Government in secret, and lists what it would mean if the proposal went ahead:

  • Massive congestion on local streets with thousands of additional trucks and car movements each and every week;
  • The concreting of Yarra Bay to provide space for the new terminal;
  • The potentional dredging of large sections of Botany Bay to accommodate large cruise ships;
  • Pressure to commercialise precious open-space; and
  • Further destruction of the environment and loss of even more beach.

3.  Petition to curb antisocial behaviour within the precinct and surrounds.

At the last meeting, the Precinct resolved to contact Federal Member Matt Thislethwaite, Local Member Michael Daly, Police Local Area Commander, and Council for action to resident's plight in relation to anti social behaviour.  Those who attended Council's Let's Chat session immediately preceding our last meeting will remember that when a resident pushed the General Manager and Ward Councillors for a solution to this longstanding problem, Cr Carlos Da Rocha asked the resident to bring this up at the Precinct meeting.

At tomorrow's meeting we will consider some concrete proposals to solve the problem, based on experiences in Queensland and resident proposals for which there is likely to be a consensus amongst residents both directly and indirectly affected by the menace.

You will recall the precinct is opposed to high density development at Jennifer Street.  Please visit the Facebook site and support the petition.

Once again I would like to take this opportunity to invite our Councillors, and a special invitation goes to South Ward Councillors Noel D'Souza, Carlos Da Rocha and Danny Said, to join us and hear firsthand what residents, rate payers and businesses in La Perouse Precinct have to say.

Looking forward to see you all at the meeting.

Kind regards,

Jayasooriah
Chairperson
